Christmas, birthdays, Valentine’s Day: it goes without saying that Barley Bay has greetings cards to cover you. But did you know that all our cards are blank inside for your own message? So why not surprise your friends and family with a card celebrating something that’s not on their radar, and see their face light up?
Here are 9 days throughout the year where you can celebrate nature:
1. RNLI SOS Day – 27th January
SOS Day is the RNLI’s national fundraising day. The RNLI is close to Barley Bay’s hearts as Trevor Barley Bay has taken part in fundraising events by singing sea shanties with his groups. Why not celebrate and send a card from our coast collection to your Fisherman’s Friends?
2. RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch Weekend
The Big Garden Birdwatch is a survey to keep track of Britain’s bird populations. Send a reminder to the posh birds, peacocks, and old hens in your life and grab your binoculars. We have the Quirky Birds collection and a number of bird cards in our Animal Fair Range, including a pheasant, owl, and woodpecker.
3. First Day of Spring – 20th March
What better way to celebrate the coming of spring with our fresh floral collection, which features bouquets and vases in pastel spring colours. They also make great Easter cards.
4. World Forestry Day – 21st March
World forestry day is a worldwide celebration of forests’ contribution to society, from a natural habitat for many species to recreation opportunities and as a source of many useful products. Why not join in the celebrations with our appropriately spring-like Bluebell Woods card, which is part of our Landscape Range. Or why not use the card to invite friends to join you on Seed Gathering Sunday on the second Sunday of October.
By the way, all Barley Bay’s greetings cards are FSC-certified, meaning they are made from sustainable sources. And, for certain sales we are also doing our bit for plastic pollution by joining the Naked Cards campaign.
5. National Pet Month – 2nd April – 2nd May
Celebrate the pets in your life with a card – we’re sure they’ll appreciate it. Whether your animal friend is a cat, dog, a pony, or a unicorn, we have lots of animals in our Animal Fair Range. On a more serious note, the aim of National Pet Month is to bring together different animal welfare charities aimed at improving the welfare of pets. You might also want to celebrate RSPCA Week between the 30th and 6th May.
6. World Oceans Day – 8th June
Our Clear Waters Range is perfect for the water babies in your life, celebrating the freedom and clarity of the sea. A fab way to celebrate World Oceans Day, a global celebration of the sea.
7. Summer Solstice – 21st June
As the warmer weather is ushered in and Britain gets ready for sunshine, Wimbledon, and Pimms, note the occasion with a card from our Tropical Garden Range. A collection of 9 different tropical flowers in vibrant colours with a nod to the current Frida Kahlo vibe.
8. National Zoo Awareness Day – 31st August
Raise awareness of the plight of captive zoo animals by sending one of our Animal Fair Safari Range cards. Elephants, lions, giraffes, flamingos and more trundle, prowl, saunter, and prance free against a vivid green jungle backdrop.
9. Autumn Equinox – 22nd September
The Autumn Equinox promises a return to cooler temperatures, the crunch of leaves underfoot, and bonfire smoke. Remind your friends to start wearing their scarves and gloves with our brown and yellow toned Cotswolds Rolling Fields card.
